Trusted Supplements
Animal health supplements are not regulated as strictly as pharmaceuticals, so quality, safety, and ingredient consistency can vary between products. Because of this, it is important to select supplements from trusted, reputable manufacturers. One way to help identify quality products is to look for the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) quality seal. The NASC is a nonprofit organization made up of companies committed to providing high quality health and nutritional supplements for companion animals, including dogs, cats, and horses.

Most of the products listed below carry the NASC quality seal. Those that do not have demonstrated strong quality assurance standards, such as seed to seal sourcing or other rigorous testing practices. This is not an all inclusive list. If you have questions about your pet’s supplements, Dr. McFaddin is happy to discuss recommendations during an appointment or through an email or phone consultation.

Fish Oil
Fish oil provides omega-3 fatty acids that support overall health in dogs and cats. It can help reduce inflammation, making it beneficial for pets with arthritis, allergies, and skin conditions. Fish oil also supports heart health, brain function, and a healthy coat, often improving skin moisture and shine.
Probiotics
Probiotics are beneficial live microorganisms that support a healthy balance of bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. They aid in digestion, help maintain normal stool quality, and support the immune system. Probiotics can be especially helpful during times of stress, dietary changes, or after antibiotic use to help restore and maintain gut health.
Curcumin
Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can support overall health in dogs and cats. It may help reduce inflammation associated with arthritis and other chronic conditions, support joint comfort and mobility, and aid in managing certain inflammatory or gastrointestinal disorders. Curcumin can also help neutralize free radicals, supporting cellular health.
Medicinal Mushrooms
Medicinal mushrooms are used as natural supplements to support immune function and overall health in dogs and cats. They contain bioactive compounds such as beta-glucans that help modulate the immune system, making them useful for immune support and during chronic illness. Certain mushrooms may also provide antioxidant benefits, support inflammation regulation, improve cognition, and promote general wellness. (Specific mushrooms will be discussed in further detail.)
